Not Football, but Life
Becoming a part of something much bigger than football
Coach Bennett has been one of the most influential people in my life. He not only taught me the game of football, but he also taught me what it means to be a man. When I transferred from Flathead High School to Glacier High School, Coach B welcomed me without hesitation. He took the time to get to know me, and I had many conversations with him, both with my family and on my own. He became someone I could trust and rely on. Before coming to Glacier, I had very little direction in my life and wasn't sure what I wanted for my future. Coach B helped me work through the challenges I was facing and was always there to listen—not just as a coach, but as a mentor and a friend. His guidance completely changed the course of my life. By the time I graduated from Glacier, I had turned everything around. I earned a 3.8 GPA during my junior and senior years and received Academic All-State honors—an achievement I never thought was possible. Coach Bennett believed in me and pushed me to believe in myself, making those accomplishments possible. Today, I am in college and have maintained an overall GPA of 3.6. I truly believe I would not be where I am today without Coach B's support, encouragement, and example. He is one of the greatest men I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and I will always be grateful for the impact he has had on my life.

I can think of so many great memories of Coach B's character when I look back at the four short years he coached me. All of them fall short of what he did outside the normalities of being my coach. The best memory I have of Coach B is coupled with the worst time in my life. The day I lost my best buddy to mental illness, he called me to his home. He and his wife Caroline, opened their doors to me. They cared for me like I was their own, and they prayed for the lord to be with me. I credit that day to finding the Holy Spirit. Coach B was there when football didn’t matter, but the young man in the pads did. Coach B, thank you for not just being a great coach, but an even better person. Most importantly, thank you for being there for me when you didn’t have to be, but when I needed you the most.
