Parent Perspectives
A partnership between coaches and parents, working together to grow their boys into strong young men of character
Our son, Cameron Shaw, had the privilege of playing for Coach Bennett from 2020 to 2023. Throughout those four years, Coach Bennett demonstrated that he genuinely cares about his players and is committed to helping shape them into successful young men—not only during their high school years, but throughout their lives. Cameron often tells us, and anyone who will listen, that Coach Bennett is one of the greatest men he has ever known. The respect and admiration he has for Coach Bennett are unmatched. One thing that always stood out to us was the respect Coach Bennett showed Cameron as an individual. He never forced Cameron to attend every offseason workout or summer 7-on-7 event, nor did he hold those decisions against him. He respected Cameron's choices while continuing to encourage him to grow and improve. Looking back, Cameron may wish he had attended more of those opportunities, but he has never questioned the positive impact Coach Bennett had on his development. Under Coach Bennett's leadership, Cameron earned First Team All-State honors as a senior and was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Game—achievements that reflect Coach Bennett's commitment to developing his players both on and off the field. The discipline, work ethic, and character Cameron developed under Coach Bennett continue to benefit him today. As parents, we are regularly complimented on Cameron's strong work ethic and maturity, qualities that will serve him well throughout his life. We do not doubt that Coach Bennett's mentorship, motivation, coaching, and teaching played a significant role in shaping those traits. Coach Bennett was also an incredible resource for us as parents. He was always available to offer guidance, answer questions, and support us as we navigated Cameron's football journey. His investment extended far beyond the football field. In my opinion, Cameron had the best high school football coach not only in the Northwest, but anywhere in the country. I know this firsthand because I played for Coach Bennett during his first season at Flathead High School in 1991. More than three decades later, he remains the same devoted, supportive, genuine, and high-character person he was then.

The Glacier High School Wolfpack football program has had a lasting impact on our family, and that starts with the leadership Coach Bennett brings to the program. It reinforces the same leadership, accountability, and citizenship values we work to teach at home, in a way that truly connects with our kids. The expectations are high, and it’s not always easy—that’s what sets the program apart. Players are held accountable in practice, the film room, and workouts, helping them build discipline, resilience, and strong character. Coach Bennett is a positive role model who has put together a coaching staff that is truly invested in each athlete. Their commitment goes beyond football—they genuinely care about developing young men. We’ve seen our boys grow because of this program, and we’re confident they will carry these lessons with them for life.

My son, Jubal Wirth, played freshman football this past year. As parents, Paul and I enjoyed watching him learn the game through the season, but what was far more valuable than that were the lessons he learned about character, making honorable decisions, and the value of working hard to achieve goals. He and his buddies have so much respect for Coach Bennett, and they really listened to what he had to say. The quote we have heard the most from Jubal, that he learned during the season was, "five minutes early is on time, on time is late, and five minutes late is disrespectful". In fact, the entire family heard enough that we now all make a more intentional effort to be on time or early to our daily commitments. It is unlikely that Jubal has a future in football, but that is okay, because the other stuff he learned from the program and all the coaches made an impact that will serve him well throughout life.

When I think about the influence Coach Bennett and his staff have on my son, Wyatt, I am pleased to know we share the same goal of raising a man of strong character. Thank you for leading our young men to be bold in their future goals by being the best version of themselves today!

We so appreciate Coach Bennett and all that he has done for Glacier, our community, and most importantly, the young men he has spoken life and truth into.

Coach Bennett teaches the boys the great need to grow up, humble themselves like Jesus, and serve something other than themselves. Adulthood is not a magic achievement or enlightenment, nor do we become an adult by turning 18 or 21. We must grow into being men and women of valor. If life were a game, I believe there are really only two sides of the line: people who learn from the warnings and mistakes of others vs people who have to learn from their own mistakes, accusers vs the accused, people who talk about others vs people who take responsibility for themselves, haters vs servants, people who want to be seen, and people who are willing to work behind the scenes learning, honing skills, developing gifts, sharpening themelves, investing in the unseen, people who complain about their circumstances vs people who make goals, invest, and get the job done, people who envy the wins of others vs people who win. Thank you for being the latter, and for leading my son to do the same.
